Sideloadable builds of CameraBench

CameraBench

These will not update from Google Play

These APKs are signed with a sideload key belonging to this page. Builds from Google Play are signed by Google with a different key, and Android refuses to replace an app with one that carries another signature.

So a build installed from this page cannot be updated by Play, and a build installed from Play cannot be updated from here. Switching between them means uninstalling first, which deletes the app's stored results and codec-probe cache. If you are on the Play track, stay on it.

Verifying a download

Every APK here is signed with the same key, and its certificate does not change between releases. The file checksum below each download changes with every build; this fingerprint does not, so it is the one worth keeping:

28e2f287de4e051c8ab2558a9172dc74275f4caa89f0610e08ccfb8c258e8a41

To check a file you have downloaded:

apksigner verify --print-certs camerabench-version.apk
sha256sum camerabench-version.apk

The first prints Signer #1 certificate SHA-256 digest: followed by the fingerprint above. The second prints the checksum shown with that download.

Or, without the Android build-tools:

keytool -printcert -jarfile camerabench-version.apk

This prints the same certificate in colon-separated form.

A fingerprint published on the page it verifies proves little by itself. Its worth is that it stays the same: record it once, from here or from the About page, and every future download can be checked against it — including one served from a page that has been tampered with. You can also compare it against a copy already installed on your phone before deciding whether an update will apply.
